“Hatberry
Shoeberry
In my canoeberry
Under the bridge
And over the dam
Looking for berries Berries for jam
They’re off…a boy and an endearing, rhyme-spouting bear, who squires him through a fantastic world of berries. And their adventure comes to a razzamatazz finale under a starberry sky.”
Jamberry is a classic! It’s so fun to read in poem form and it ALWAYS makes me hungry for yummy jam! Lucky for you, I found an easy fix for that craving: strawberry freezer jam! It’s DELICIOUS and so easy to make that it’s the perfect project for a hot summer day! (And you get to eat it afterward…yum)
Ingredients:
- 4 cups crushed strawberries
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1.59 oz package of Ball Freezer Jam Pectin
- 1 package Ball Freezer Jam containers (they are small and plastic)
Steps:
1. Crushing strawberries is a great way for the kids to get involved–just take a few small packages of strawberries, hull them, put them in a bowl and let the kids have at it with wooden spoons, potato mashers or forks.
2. Mix together pectin and sugar in a bowl big enough to hold the strawberries.
3. Add crushed strawberries and stir for 3 minutes.
4. Transfer into freezer jars, twist on lids and allow to sit for 30 minutes.
5. Enjoy immediately or put in freezer (will keep in the freezer for about 6 months and in the fridge for 3 weeks).
And…don’t forget about something to put the jam on! Ice cream, toast, waffles…my favorite is Grands Flaky Layers Biscuits.
